Professional Experience
Dr. Amit Mehra currently serves as Managing Director with Advisory Associates, Inc.

Prior to working with AAI, Dr. Mehra worked as Chief Engineer at D-STAR Engineering, where he had overall program responsibility for development of an advanced turbine engine under a $4.6MM program.  He was also responsible for launching the Washington DC branch office, and gained extensive business development experience through SBIR and BAA proposals to various Department of Defense Agencies and NASA. During his last few months, he additionally served as the Director of Operations, with overall responsibility for financial operations of the company.

Before joining D-STAR, Dr. Mehra worked as a consultant with Dean and Company, a strategy consulting firm in the Washington DC area, gaining experience in the energy and telecom practices of the company.  Specific assignments involved development of financial valuation and due diligence processes for power plants using energy price forecasts in competitive merchant markets, best practices support for merger integration of two $7B utility companies, development of cost models for multiple access technologies (DSL, cable, wireless, etc.) to evaluate use of product bundling and targeting to enhance customer retention, identification of cost and productivity benchmarks for annual Op. Ex. of $100MM by examining Frame Relay, ATM and IP Network Operation centers for one of the nations largest voice and data carriers, and examination of market positioning to recommend strategic options for key players in the PDA industry. 

Education
Dr. Mehra completed his Ph.D. and M.S. in Aeronautics/Astronautics at MIT, and was awarded the 1st prize at the Merrill Lynch Global Innovation Grants Competition in 2001 for widespread commercial potential of his doctoral research. Dr. Mehra was also recognized as one of the top 12 technology innovators of Indian origin in the US, by Outlook Magazine in 2002, and has 13 technical publications to his credit, including a Best Paper Award.

Dr. Mehra earned his undergraduate degree from Caltech, where he received the Caltech Carnation Merit Fellowship.  He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst, having received his CFA charter in 2007.
